Granny's Hat..

Hi everyone!

I found some sentimental inspiration this week, inspiration in something that I mindlessly see and touch every single day. Mindlessly that is until it pricks me! My pin cushion,  there have been many new pin cushions  shoved aside for this little old stained one made by Granny's precious hands.

Granny was a nurse and midwife back in the day when nurses were required to wear those little nurse caps and uniforms with aprons that were so white they looked blue!  She had many stories to tell of her years as a midwife and all the births she attended, her favorite in particular was of triples being born before the doctor made it out to the house. What I find so amazing about Granny is that she had so little time in her busy schedule, she worked at the old city hospital teaching student nurses, midwife and was a private duty nurse to the Reynolds family, always on the go even during the night, yet she found time to make all her clothes down to her under garments! Granny didn't have just a few dresses she literally had hundreds, and most were hand sewn or sewn on a foot pedal machine. And to top it off, she kept all her grand daughters in dresses that she made. The only thing about Granny's dresses...she made one style! one pattern for all her dresses and that was the drop waist 1920's, every dress was made the same but you would get some that she had smocked or pleated, with pockets and without or a lace panel added, they were all beautiful even though they were all shaped the same!

Okay, back to Granny's Victorian hat pin cushion!
The fabric for this little pin cushion comes from a pair of her white nurse stockings, as you can see stockings back then were made of really thick and heavy material. The poor little hat has so many pin holes and so many stains I sometimes wonder if Granny would be upset with me for not being brave enough to try and clean the precious thing, but it would break my heart if it didn't hold up to a cleaning! So, I decided instead of taking a chance on losing her pin cushion I would make a replica of it and retire hers into safe keeping...

Now I'm finding that I absolutely love making these little hats!

Thanks for stopping by!

Creative week and Happy Pink Saturday!

Hi everyone!

I hope your week has been beautiful and creative. Its been dreary and gray here all week but I have found my longing for spring to get here just a little bit faster (please!) has motivated me to get busy and focus on something besides being gray and dreary along with the sky.

Oh here's a tid-bit of news! Have you heard about the change in the zodiac dates? I thought this was interesting...

http://www.mb.com.ph/articles/298420/its-all-stars-new-zodiac-dates-released
Excerpt:

It's all in the stars: new zodiac dates released

“The moon's gravitational pull has slowly moved the Earth in its axis, creating about a one-month bump in the stars' alignment... Now, during what we think as the month of Pisces, the sun is actually in the sign of Aries…”
Thus the adjustment of zodiac dates as follows:

Capricorn: January 20-February 16
Aquarius: February 16-March 11
Pisces: March 11-April 18
Aries: April 18-May 13
Taurus: May 13-June 21
Gemini: June 21-July 20
Cancer: July 20-August 10
Leo: August 10-September 16
Virgo: September 16-October 30
Libra: October 30-November 23
Scorpio: November 23-December 17
Sagittarius: December 17-January 20

Now with these new dates and my birthday (June 21st) I am no longer sandwiched between Cancer and Gemini (Basically a crabby multiple personality person)... I'm now a "BULL with multiple personalities! Oh my!...how... flattering... Mr. H should be tickled pink to hear about this, all he has to do now to get my attention is wear a red cape and sing "olay, olay!" But being a split bull..make that cape PINK!

Okay, on to the creative part of my week, here are a few of the lovelies I made this week...

I think out of all the new journals I have been making, I adore this one best!

And how gorgeous is this velvet and satin bible cover, I hardly ever make covers to fit large books and bibles. It's hard to tell in the pictures but the trim is metallic gold, just stunning..

I love the rich bold colors of this little note pad keeper...

And NOW! My favorite pinks for the week!

Pink Yummies!

And the sweetest of all pinks ever, came from my son...

Thank you so much for visiting with me, it ends the week on such a beautiful note hearing from you..

Some Vintage Favorites!

Hi Bloggerette sisters!

Drop by the new Bloggerette Sorority blog and introduce yourself to our new "Hostess", Debi from Life In My Studio.  And while you're there grab the new sorority button!

I was suppose to be working on organizing and cleaning my little studio today, that just isn't going to happen.  Especially now that I have ran across some of my favorite pretties, I'll just log this day as a "rummage my stash" day.

I found these old vintage pens and pencils! I just adore the old refillable pencils, they are so small and dainty..

This was one of my grandfather's ink pens and it looks well used...

And the scarf! I love vintage scarves, this one belonged to my grandmother, I don't ever remember seeing her wear it but I do remember her opening her purse and showing me everything she carried in it, she said it was a must to always have a pretty scarf tucked into your purse just in case the weather turned "unforgiving" and threatened to mess your hair up..

Oh, and the old rotary dial phone! My sons and their friends are just so amazed with this phone, I've had to plug it in and let each one take a turn calling someone on it! I've never seen teenagers so amazed and memorized by simply using their fingers to spin the dial and then the excitement of watching the dial slowly return to its position. And why each child thought they needed to yell into the phone, OMG! JUST HILARIOUS!  I think this phone has out done the video games around here!  I'm not about to tell them that dial phones are all I knew growing up, jeez I'm getting old..

Okay, one last pretty for now...my tea keeper! I love this little tin, so romantic..

Thank you for dropping by and visiting with me!

Spiritual Sunday's (God so loved the world...)

Remembering a beloved sister and friend, Kimberly Ludeke 1968 - 2011

Jhn 3:16     For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

This is from a study I did a while back, after listening to so many saying that we need to "die to self" and stopping to ask myself if I really understood what that means, I found that I had what I now call a "Peter" understanding of it...Let me see if I can explain,

We are crucified with our Lord and we do "die to self" but I think the words that the Lord used for this dieing is to "lay down" our life...

Jhn 14:15   If ye love me, keep my commandments.

Jhn 14:21      He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

What does it mean to be crucified with Him...to walk with Him, in Him and Him in you...to do the things He does...

Jhn 10:15  As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.

Jhn 10:17  Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.

Jhn 10:18  No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

 Again:
Jhn 14:15   If ye love me, keep my commandments.

This is what I call my "Peter understanding"

Jhn 13:37 Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake.

Jhn 13:38 Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.

For the three times Peter denied our Lord...the Lord also asked him three times "do you love me"

I don't see Peter denying the Lord as something he failed at, he loved the Lord and was willing to lay down his life to prove that love,  But there was still more for Peter to understand at that time...

What did Peter not understand?

Jhn 13:37 Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake.

The Lord does not ask us to lay down our lives for HIS SAKE...He ask us to love the world as God so loved the world and lay down our life for each other's sake... He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me:

1Jo 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love [of God], because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down [our] lives for the brethren.

Hugs' and Blessings for a beautiful week!

Tea cups and Diaries...

Hi everyone!
I just had to share these sweet little tea cups I found, they were two little loners sitting on a shelf in our locate thrift store and I couldn't pass them up, the evergreen and pine cones are just adorable. There were no matching saucers for them but after looking through the strays I did find two prefect little saucers that go so well with them! I'm hoping to do a prettier setting with them, these were quick snap shots I did while photographing the new "Diary Journals" for my shop.

Here are a few shoots of the new journals, I really like making these diary journals, maybe it has something to do with my love and addiction for recording my personal thoughts every night! I used an assortment of med. and heavy weight paper in the journals for the added feature of  heavy card stock for scrap-booking.

I'm truly disappointed with the photos of this one! I could not capture the awesome color blends...I'll have to try to get better pictures of it outside in the natural light, it's just gorgeous with the pastels and then the bold trim added!
